Sacramento Spring Weekend Getaway: Your 3-Day Itinerary

April 2026 • Travel Guide

Why Sacramento in Spring Is Underrated

Most people think of San Francisco or Lake Tahoe when planning a Northern California getaway. Sacramento gets overlooked — and that's exactly why it's worth your time. Spring in Sacramento means mid-70s daytime temperatures, wildflowers along the American River, patio season at farm-to-fork restaurants, and none of the coastal fog or mountain chill.

We've hosted over 700 groups at City of Trees House, and spring weekends are consistently the most loved. Guests arrive Friday evening, grill in the backyard, soak in the hot tub, and spend two full days exploring a city that keeps surprising them. Here's the itinerary we recommend after 9+ years of hosting.

Friday Evening: Arrive and Settle In

Check in at 4 PM. The house is ready — beds made, towels fresh, WiFi password on the counter (432 Mbps, if you need to work remotely). Drop your bags, pick a record from the 3,000-vinyl collection, and let the weekend begin.

Dinner Option 1: Grill at Home

Stop at Nugget Markets (10 minutes away) for steaks, burgers, or whatever your crew wants. Fire up the 8-burner Mont Alpi grill in the backyard. Grab craft beers from Drake's: The Barn (5 minutes). Eat outside under the string lights with the fire pit going. This is the meal that sets the tone for the entire weekend.

Dinner Option 2: Farm-to-Fork Downtown

Sacramento is the Farm-to-Fork Capital of America — not a marketing slogan, an actual designation. For a special Friday night: Mulvaney's B&L (seasonal tasting menu in a historic firehouse), The Kitchen (interactive Chef's Table, book weeks ahead), or Localis (omakase-style California cuisine). All within 10 minutes.

After Dinner

Come home to the private hot tub (104°F year-round). April evenings in Sacramento are cool enough to make the steam rise — warm water, cold beer, and a sky full of stars. This is the moment every guest talks about in their review.

Saturday: Explore Sacramento

Morning

Start with coffee from the Fellow Aiden maker in the kitchen (we stock premium beans), or drive 5 minutes to Temple Coffee in Midtown — one of the best roasters in Northern California.

Hit the Midtown Farmers Market (Saturdays, 20th & J Street, 8 AM-1 PM). This is Sacramento's crown jewel — 150+ vendors, live music, fresh produce straight from Delta farms. It's walkable, dog-friendly, and the best way to feel the city's pulse.

Late Morning

Walk through Midtown itself. Sacramento's most vibrant neighborhood is packed with independent boutiques, galleries, murals, and brunch spots. Check out Insight Coffee, browse records at Phono Select Records, and grab brunch at Bacon & Butter (expect a line — it's worth it).

Afternoon

Choose your adventure:

Saturday Evening

Back at the house, fire up the grill again or order from SactoMoFo (Sacramento's food truck collective — they often park within delivery range). If you're feeling competitive, the neon game room awaits: retro arcade games, pool table, ping pong, and darts. Put the kids to bed in the bunk room, and the adults can keep the night going.

Sunday: Slow Morning, One More Stop

Morning

Sleep in. Make a proper breakfast in the gourmet kitchen — the KitchenAid stand mixer, Caraway cookware, and full spice rack make it easy. Pancakes, eggs, fresh fruit from yesterday's farmers market. Eat on the back patio while the kids play in the fenced yard.

Before Check-Out

One final stop before heading home:

Check out at 10 AM. You'll leave Sacramento wondering why you didn't visit sooner — and already thinking about your next trip back.

Why City of Trees House Is Your Spring Base Camp

Hotels in downtown Sacramento run $180-300/night for a standard room. No backyard. No hot tub. No kitchen. No game room. Parking is $25-40/night extra.

City of Trees House gives your group a 3-bedroom, 2-bathroom private home starting at $249/night total — not per person. Split it among friends or family and you're paying less than a hotel while getting infinitely more space and amenities. The private hot tub, game room, and full backyard are things a hotel literally cannot offer.
